The Pale Kings reign in secrecy across the Chain Worlds, and embody an ancient and mysterious race. Unique marks from birth signify their sect membership, showcasing their deep roots in the universe’s origins. Furthermore, they claim a divine right, seeing themselves as the universe’s rightful heirs. Meanwhile, their mission is clear: to unite the realms under their rule, by any means necessary.

They view the universe’s diversity with contempt, while labeling anything outside their realm as “The Other.” Such entities deserve disdain and fear in their eyes. From a young age, the Kings undergo rigorous training in Null Space. While there, they learn the dark arts of the Unknown Mysteries. This harsh indoctrination exposes them to horrors that leave their faces gaunt, leading them to hide behind masks or cloths.

The Null Staff stands as their main tool, while it captures and holds souls from Null Space. This staff transforms these souls into new Pale Kings, in a twisted take on reincarnation. They draw power from these souls, with some trapped eternally to boost the staff’s strength. As a result, this soul collection turns into a grim competition among them, where the largest collection denotes supremacy.

During their time in Null Space, they discovered The Nothing. Consequently, this powerful force appeared as a potential tool to destroy the Chainworlds, aiming to consolidate its dimensions under their rule. However, they didn’t realize The Nothing was manipulating them. It was corrupting them from within, turning them into its puppets. They unknowingly began to execute its plan for universal destruction.

Now, as The Nothing’s unwitting agents, the Pale Kings are on the verge of triggering a Chainworld-ending cataclysm. Their story serves as a warning about the perils of unchecked ambition and the seductive nature of power.
